New York, NY (August 8, 2017) – Cureatr – a New York-based healthcare technology company was recently recognized by Redox, a leading healthcare technology blog, as one of the top companies driving the future of healthcare technology.
The recognition comes as Cureatr announced that it has reached record utilization of its platform by healthcare providers. Roughly 20,000 medical professionals are using the technology in more than 50 U.S. institutions and healthcare organizations. Millions of patient-related communications have been delivered across the Cureatr platform thus far in 2017, with use expanding rapidly.
Cureatr is a mobile care coordination solution designed to alert healthcare providers and enables care collaboration in various patient care settings. It uses real-time notifications and communication to give doctors, nurses, pharmacists, social workers and all other care-team stakeholders updates on the care of their patients.
“Cureatr provides a new and better way to care for patients. Mistakes, poor quality, and over-utilization most often occur because of miscommunication between clinicians, the lack of available key information, and the simple inability to communicate. Cureatr solves these problems.”
— Bill Winkenwerder, MD, Chief Executive Officer of Cureatr
Clinical events such as visits to the ER, admissions to the hospital, patient transfers, discharges, doctor visits, and transitions from the hospital setting to follow-up care are securely communicated via Cureatr’s platform.
Using clinical event notifications, Cureatr informs the appropriate care-team members when a health-related event occurs with a patient or a population of patients. It then sends along key clinical information and allows caregivers to communicate and coordinate optimal care.
“Cureatr provides a new and better way to care for patients,” said Bill Winkenwerder, MD, Chief Executive Officer of Cureatr. “Mistakes, poor quality, and over-utilization most often occur because of miscommunication between clinicians, the lack of available key information, and the simple inability to communicate. Cureatr solves these problems. Care is improved. Costs are reduced, and things like unnecessary hospital readmissions can be eliminated.”
Dr. Winkenwerder, former CEO of a large health insurance company and a former practicing primary care physician, sees the benefits of Cureatr based on his personal experience and envisions the cloud-based platform as the way of the future. “Within a few years, the Cureatr approach will be the industry standard.”
Cureatr does this by building networks of Care Transition Notifications (CTNs) and delivering them via a robust care-coordination platform. Cureatr’s CTNs alert clinicians in real-time on mobile or desktop applications when an attributed patient is receiving care anywhere within a region. It delivers necessary information that is essential to reducing preventable hospitalizations and avoiding readmissions.
How Cureatr Works
Cureatr captures digital data from multiple sources and seamlessly notifies members of the patient care team. The flow of information is multidirectional and agnostic with regard to electronic record system, allowing for coordination internally within institutions as well as externally with others using dissimilar electronic medical record systems or care management platforms.
Mount Sinai Health System, Penn Medicine, and Montefiore Health System are among the leading national and partners currently utilizing the platform. Over 40 hospitals and health systems are set to use Cureatr by the end of the year.
Study shows Cureatr reduces hospital readmissions and ER visits
One New York-based hospital system used Cureatr’s technology and its notification system to reduce hospital readmissions through the Emergency Room by nearly 50 percent during a one-year period.
Additionally, Cureatr enabled a large network of primary care physicians to more efficiently manage its Medicare patients, resulting in millions of dollars of savings under the Medicare Shared Savings Program.
Why Cureatr Reduces Emergency Room Visits
A survey published in Health Affairs found that in 30 percent of adult emergency department visits, the primary care doctor was not informed of the care their patient received. This lack of information can lead to negative health outcomes, poor quality of care and increased medical costs.
“We’re committed to reducing hospitalizations and preventing readmissions while improving overall patient care across a spectrum of healthcare settings,” said Mary Stuyvesant, Vice President of Client Services. “Cureatr’s technology is bringing real time data and communication solutions to hospitals and providers, even when their systems are not compatible. All of the relevant stakeholders responsible for a patient’s care are informed and in sync with Cureatr — improving outcomes and reducing risk.”
Founded in 2012 by physicians in New York City, Cureatr helps accountable care organizations, hospitals and health systems, specialty care providers, payers and physician group practices track patients in real-time throughout the care continuum and improves their care. The technology is available via mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, as well as on desktop computers.
Cureatr’s patient-centric approach captures data from multiple sources and seamlessly notifies members of the patient care team. The flow of information is multidirectional and allows for coordination internally within institutions as well as externally with others using dissimilar electronic records or care management platforms.
